NJ Police Rescue Man in Burning Car

A pair of cops from the New Jersey shore town of Barnegat rescued a driver from a car that was engulfed in flames. The incident was captured by the dashboard cameras in their patrol cars. It happened Jan. 30th at about 8:45 pm Officers Lauren Keilitz and Michael Diblasi responded to a car fire on Biscayne Rd. When they got there the officers saw flames pouring out of a 2005 BMW 745i. Mario Dischiavi, 57, was incapacitated in the driver's seat of the vehicle. Keilitz, an eight-year veteran of the Barnegat Police Department, was able to open the rear passenger door and saw Dischiavi through the thick smoke. Diblasi attempted to open the driver's door and could not get the latch to release. He ran back to his car to get a window punch in order to break the window. While Diblasi was gone, Keilitz braved the heat and flames and managed to get the driver's door open. She was able to pull Dischiavi from the car. Dischiavi was transported to Southern Ocean Medical Center with smoke inhalation. The two officers were unhurt. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
